We had lots of fun on the road trip from Kansas City to St. Petersburg, Florida. It wasn’t a bad drive at all, although the second day was more challenging than the first because there was NOTHING to see… except billboards begging me not to get an abortion alongside billboards for sex shops & strip clubs.
Get your crap together, Southern billboard people.
I LOVE ROAD TRIPS. Sure, flying is faster. Trains are more comfortable. But, being on a road trip means you get to see all sorts of things and have experiences before you even arrive at your destination. I’m crazy about that. This road trip to Florida has special meaning to me because it’s the first time in years I’ve been well enough to travel, so I value the opportunity to savor every little moment.
Before leaving Kansas City, I decided I was going to look for beauty everywhere and purposefully allow myself to be overcome with awe. I knew I wanted to spend time simply feeling the incredible gratitude I have for finally being on “the road” to wellness. So, yeah. This is a big deal for me.
I’ll admit I was discouraged when one of the first things I saw was this:
But, I kept looking and I’m happy to report I haven’t been disappointed.
This photo was taken next to an asphalt parking lot of a Wendy’s. It was right in front of our spot. Holy cow, did the Honeysuckle smell sweet. There were happy bees everywhere.
This was taken looking up through the sunroof of our car. It’s the steel of a bridge framing the sky after a hard downpour of rain.
And, speaking of rain… there was so much of it and it was often coming down in sheets. Poor JD had to navigate through it all while I just enjoyed the sound and watching the drops falling to rest on our sunroof.
We made it to St. Petersburg, Florida last night. I’m in Heaven, where I will remain for the next several weeks. Color me in awe.
I’m going to continue to look for beauty everywhere over the next few weeks we are enjoying our holiday. I hope you’ll find your own beauty wherever you are!
