So I hit my first weight loss goal, and now I’m on the final stretch to hit my ‘super-duper, ok I’m done’ weight loss goal. I’ve told you about giving up sugar & carbs, and I’ve given you an idea of some of the things I eat, so today I’m going to talk about other stuff I do, (and don’t do) and I’m going to share some weight loss tips that helped me, and can help you.
This past weekend my kiddo graduated college. I didn’t cry, even though I thought I would bawl my make-up off. It was such a happy occasion, and we celebrated all weekend long. It was so nice to find something to wear without feeling like a sausage wearing a shower curtain.
I was pretty psyched, y’all.
I see the “chunks” of fat in places I with they weren’t. I see the tummy I’d like to have sucked away – but I won’t because I’m not a tummy-tuck kind of chick.
I’m afraid they’d suck too hard, wind up with a grip on my brain cells, and I wouldn’t be able to remember that time in 1st grade that a teacher’s aide told me I was a great reader.
She was right, by the way.
But, overall I’m ok with it. Much more ok than I was when I first decided to lose weight.
Since I wrote the first blog post about losing weight, lots of ladies have reached out to me who feel desperate to get rid of some extra weight. Most feel like they may not have what it takes to drop some pounds.
Total BS, y’all. Total BS.
I know I sound like a late night infomercial when I say, “If I can do it, you can do it.” I hate even saying it, but what’s true is true.
I’m lazy! I love bread more than you do. Jeez, I am known for my love of eating frosting right out of the container. I tell you true. Right out of the blessed container. It was like my personal anti-anxiety med.
Willpower? What the hell is that?

My Weight Loss Tips
Track all aspects of your weight loss.
Girl, I was so embarrassed at the weight I’d gained, I couldn’t even put my real weight in my LoseIt app.
That’s right, I freaking lied to my app. But, I did keep track of every bite of food I put in my mouth and how much weight I gained or lost every day.
If you don’t want to use an app, here’s a printable you can use to track your day.
Stock up on the foods you like.
I’ve found I do better if I limit my choices. I’m of the mind that when it comes to weight loss (and pretty much the rest of my life, too), voluntary simplicity is the way to go.
I really, really like Atkins protein shakes. I never set out to be the chick in a tiny bikini saying, “Just a shake for breakfast and a shake for lunch and I lost 89 pounds in 4 days!”
Since I love them so much, and since they have 15g of Protein, 1 g of Sugar, and just 1g Net Carbs, I don’t fix what ain’t broke. I drink one for breakfast and one at lunch. It’s easy, it gets protein in my tummy so that I’m not hungry, and it’s sweet – and I do like sweet.

I also really like mashed cauliflower that’s loaded with bits of uncured bacon, red onion, and some sharp cheddar cheese. I started off making it myself, and then I found Hanover’s frozen mashed cauliflower and now my freezer is always stocked with it. I like Homestyle the best, but second to that is the Ranch. Get yo’self some.
I always have chicken, beef, and lots of bags of frozen cauliflower and broccoli. Most of the time I cook the chicken & beef ahead of time and separate it out into portion sizes for Himself and Myself.
I make lots of stirfry because we lurves it. (No rice or noodles, obviously.) I like using different seasonings so I keep a big variety of those.
I cook with either real butter, or olive oil, or coconut oil. I never use margarine or other BS crap like that. Blargh. I also bake meats in the oven or use the crock pot to make a roast (beef or pork) for the week.
Sometimes we’ll make cheeseburgers without the bun. I usually have a bag of seasoned beef patties from Target in the freezer.
Buy the best when it comes to things you love.
You’re skimping on calories & carbs, and that’s enough. Buy the best of the good stuff and you won’t feel like you’re suffering.
For instance, we love good coffee in the French Press, so it’s Pete’s Coffee over less expensive options. (I’d spend whatever necessary for great coffee, so if you know of a crazy good brand/blend, tell me!)
We treat ourselves with 85% dark chocolate so we buy the best we can find. Right now those are Green & Black’s Organic 85% Dark Chocolate and Ghirardelli Intense Dark Chocolate. I’m sure there are better brands, but I haven’t tried them yet.
I also don’t buy cheap store brand peanut butter. It tastes like goop with a hint of factory-second peanuts to me.
Don’t starve yourself!
I can’t stress this enough. If you’re starving you’re about to do something stupid, like hunch over a day old cake in Kroger, growling at other shoppers as you feast upon it like a wild animal.
There is no honor in being crazy hungry. Eat the right stuff and you won’t go nuts. When you’re hungry, eat more of the good stuff. Your hunger will change eventually. Believe me.
Stop drinking calories.
Giving up soda is easy. What’s not so easy? The awful realization that those “healthy” drinks you love are full of crap.
I’m a big fan of a certain brand of tropical coconut drinks and was chugging them on the regular. Imagine my heartbreak when I scanned one into my app.
First of all, I was drinking the whole thing – even though apparently they have 2 servings in a bottle. Second? Straight up loaded with carbs & sugar. DAMMIT.
Be good to yourself in ways that don’t involve food.
Girl, treat yourself to something you love that you can’t fit into your mouth.
Some new makeup maybe? A book you want to buy. New pillows for your bed? Whatever… just don’t eat it. I recently bought myself a bottle of Pompeii Purple OPI Nail Polish and some new ZIG markers. They are hard to chew, so they’re safe in my presence.
(OPI is a little indulgence for me, and it makes me feel like a pretty, pretty, fancy lady. New markers are my crack.)
Don’t kick your own ass.
See a little weight gain on the scale? So the hell what? Look at the day before in your app and see if you can spot the problem.
But you know what? Sometimes it’s nothing you did.
Sometimes our bodies just do shit. I’m sure there is a smarty pants human who can tell you why, but I’m not that person.
If you get discouraged because you’re not losing fast enough in your estimation, or because you see a little weight gain despite your best efforts, you’re being silly. Keep going because that’s no excuse to quit. If you quit, I’ll make fun of you behind your back.
So what do you think about these weight loss tips? I realize my way of losing weight is nothing new. I get that I’m not suddenly a weight loss expert. But these little changes helped me lose the weight, and continue to help me lose the last 5 pounds I have to go and to keep me healthier than I was before.
I hope they help you. You can do this. (Especially if you’re lacking in the willpower department, like yours truly.) Now go forth and LOSE!
